How to Get a Medical Marijuana Card in Charlotte, North Carolina

As you are probably aware, medical marijuana remains illegal in the state of North Carolina. Although it was considered by many to be the most southern state to legalize the drug first, it has not joined its neighbors in the north by adopting the laws to help push the exciting personal use and medicinal marijuana industry. Several bills were introduced in both the Senate and the House about regulation and legalization of hemp, adult personal usage, and medicinal usage, but when it adjourned for the year, no bills were passed.

Although it is not available legally yet, at our Charlotte Marijuana Doctor clinic, we will be taking appointments with patients when it is legalized to help them secure their medical marijuana card.

How Does it Work?

Once the legalization has been approved, we will start offering appointments to patients. As an incentive, you can sign up now and reserve an appointment.

The practitioners who work at our clinic are highly trained and qualified and will conduct evaluations to confirm that you have conditions that make you eligible for a medical marijuana card. We will then issue the relevant medical cannabis certification so you can obtain a North Carolina MMJ Card and Medical Marijuana Card and buy medical marijuana products at state-regulated NC dispensaries.

We aim to help North Carolina residents get the natural treatment for their medical conditions they deserve. Our practitioners will aid our patients throughout the process from start to finish and will even provide after and follow-on care, all included within the original price we quote.

What Conditions Have Been Approved for Medical Marijuana Products Treatment?

For the time being, intractably, epilepsy is the only condition that qualifies North Carolina patients for medical marijuana treatment. However, as the program develops and medical marijuana is made legal in the state, we believe the following conditions will also qualify:

  •   Multiple sclerosis
  •   PTSD
  •   Parkinson’s Disease
  •   Sickle Cell Anemia
  •   Crohn’s Disease
  •   ALS
  •   HIV/AIDS
  •   Epilepsy
  •   Cancer
  •   Cachexia, also known as wasting syndrome
  •   Persistent or severe nausea (for bed-bound or hospice patients)

How Do You Qualify for an MMJ Card in North Carolina?

As we have noted throughout this article, medical marijuana is not yet legal and available in North Carolina. When it is, you will need to qualify for your NC MMJ Card to buy medical marijuana products from one of the state’s regulated dispensaries when they are eventually opened. While the full details are not known yet, we are sure the qualifications needed will be very similar to the below:

  •   Must be 18 years or older (patients younger than 18 years will need parental consent)
  •   Must have an up-to-date diagnosis of one of the qualifying conditions listed above.
  •   Must have an official certification in writing from a qualified physician
  •   Must be a North Carolina resident and have proof of residency, either in the form of a state ID card or a valid and current driver’s license.

Is an MMJ Card for North Carolina Worth it?

Once medical marijuana is legal in North Carolina, we believe it will be in your best interest if you qualify for a card that you go through the process to get one for several reasons.

Access to Effective Treatment for Your Medical Condition

If you live with one or more of the qualifying medical conditions we have already highlighted, we recommend that when medical marijuana is legalized, you start accessing the treatment because it has been proven to be effective. Not only is it effective, but it is natural, too.

Access to Regulated-Dispensaries

When the treatment is legalized, you will only be able to buy marijuana for medicinal use from regulated dispensaries officially. To access these, you will need to have an MMJ card. This means you will be able to buy a variety of different products offering marijuana in different potencies and strengths, from creams and oils to tinctures and potentially edibles and vaporizers.

Will Ensure You are Legally Protected

Another important reason for obtaining an MMJ card for the state of North Carolina, once medical use marijuana is legal and available, is to ensure you are legally protected. The card proves to any law enforcement that you are officially registered in the NC Medical Marijuana Control Program and are, therefore, legally allowed to possess, consume, and transport medical marijuana products.

Access to Marijuana in Other States

As noted above, having a card will mean you can legally and safely obtain medical marijuana products within the state of North Carolina. In addition to this obvious benefit, you can use your card in other states whenever you travel. Many states currently have medical marijuana laws that offer full reciprocity with their own program.

While the details have not been disclosed as yet, a North Carolina MMJ card will likely offer you the same benefits in states with similar requirements.

What Forms and Information Will Be Required When Applying for an NC Medical Marijuana Card?

Again, this is highly speculative and based on what has been the case in other states, but there are several documents and other important information that will be required to apply successfully for an NC MMJ card when the time arrives. This includes:

  •   Completed application form
  •   Physician Written Certification
  •   North Carolina State ID card or North Carolina-issued Driver’s License photocopy (it is important to note that the name and address used on the application form must match that listen on the ID or driver’s license)
  •   Application fee
